Patagonian Wilderness
Las Puertas del Cielo
Possibly the most heaven-like scene from my travels in South America. It may not seem so, but this sunrise did not start off particularly vibrant. I was ready to give up hope of seeing the giant "Los Cuernos" peaks under morning light. In true Patagonia fashion, the weather changed suddenly - if only for a minute or two. The wind blew a couple clearings in the clouds and in an instant, the peaks were once again obscured by the fog. This piece is appropriately titled "Las Puertas del Cielo" which translates to "The Pearly Gates" or "The Gates of Heaven" in English.
Los Fragmentos
I managed to catch a lucky overcast day at Lago Grey in Torres del Paine National Park during the Fall. The even, subtle light provided by the cloud coverage reveals the color of the glacial particles and ice beautifully. While this image captures the detail of the giant shards of ice, it is hard to tell that these towers are one-hundred feet tall in some sections, not counting the depth unerneath the water. It is otherworldly to visit a site like this. Luckily this image, like the glacier itself, is massive. This limited print can be printed at sizes exceeding ninety inches in width. It is named "Los Fragmentos" which translates from Spanish to "Fragments" or "Shards."
Tangled
A fire in Patagpnia's Torres del Paine National Park left a sizeable amount of trees bare and burned years ago. The remaining trees are twisted in structure and if you utilize them properly, create an amazing natural frame for the larger subjects behind them. It appears as if the trees are tangled around the mountains in the background.
First Impressions
As you enter the iconic Torres del Paine National Park, Chile, you are greeted with this amazing view of Los Cuernos or "The Horns." I was lucky to have arrived at this point with beautiful light striking the foothills and dramatic clouds circling the massive peaks. It is normally quite windy in Patagonia and these ranges seem to create and attract their own weather. If you look closely, you can spot a small whirlwind in the valley just to the right of the park's main road.

Perflection
A surreal and tranquil sunrise in Patagonia presented some of the most epic conditions for shooting this iconic mountain range. The calm in the air allowed for a very rare capture of reflections in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile - normally one of the windiest place on Earth. The open shutter used to capture this scene beautifully records the movement in the clouds and the stillness in the glassy lake in the foreground.

The Welcoming
Perhaps my favorite of the many sunrises I experienced in South America happened only one day into my first trip to Patagonia. I set up shop in the dark along the shores of a small lake with beautiful views of the most iconic mountain range in Chile's Torres del Paine National Park. It was an extremely rare windless morning, as Patagonia is regarded as one of the windiest locations on Earth. The good luck continued with amazing reflections in the clear water and a burning, changing sky lasting well into golden hour. A long open shutter was used to capture the movement in the clouds and the brilliant color illuminating the landscape in the distance.
