Courage to Glow
This image was captured on a lightly traveled trail in the “Islands in the Sky” section of the massive Canyonlands National Park. The short, but brilliant trail takes you lower in altitude and puts you up close with the amazing desert scenery you see here. Unfortunately, due to the recurring vandalism to the trail's main attraction, it is now closed to the public. Timing is everything, and catching the fading golden light upon these great rock formations was the goal in setting up this panorama. The beautiful sunset that ensued was a nice little bonus. The ultra high resolution of this image allows for giant prints at stunning quality – sizes in excess of 90" in width.

Trinity
I am still in awe of this amazing place. Antelope Canyon and the surrounding slot canyons in Northern Arizona are some of the most fascinating natural landscapes I have seen. Normally these canyons are extremely busy, so timing a trip properly is important. Getting the shot and enjoying the visit without hordes of tourists in your frame makes all the difference. From March to October, the Sun’s position emits rays of light deep into the slot canyon where its beams play upon the dust filled air, creating this spectacular natural phenomenon. There are no shortage of photographs from this insanely popular tourist destination, but there are infinite variations and combinations of timing, shutter speeds, angles and compositions to generate truly unique perspectives and emotionally stirring images.

Neytiri
Still amazes me how the dust and light can come together to create human like figures. This single frame captured in Arizona's Antelope Canyon shows a tall female form coming to life.

Open Heart
There are so many tones, colors and compositions within the various slot canyons of Northern Arizona. This particular image was taken in Rattlesnake Canyon - one of the little cousins of Antelope Canyon. Although much smaller in size than Antelope Canyon, Rattlesnake is much less crowded. The narrower slots present unique perspectives for photography and require getting into some pretty interesting positions with your camera. If you get the light and composition just right, you can capture amazing hues of blues, purples and reds in addition to the beautiful oranges that fill these geological phenomena. I particularly enjoy the symmetry in this scene. When rotated in either direction, “Open Heart” is still intriguing and unique and is surely a compliment to an interior space.

Windswept
Dust is kicked up and tossed into the light in the more iconic section of Antelope Canyon. The light changes by the minute at this time of year. So much so, you may even notice the light rays moving to the naked eye. At this particular moment, the light rays filled the canyon and reflected light accross the various walls. The color and illumination of the textured walls is quite a sight to see.

Desert Silk
Just a stones throw away from Zion National Park, Utah, lies an unbelievable trail. The Kanarra Creek winds itself through a beautiful slot canyon and seems like a fairy tale sort of scene as you step through. You must hike directly through the stream to proceed further into the canyon, climbing a couple sets of strategic ladders to move higher. A very real sense of adventure is with you as you ascend past beautiful waterfalls with only more beauty around every corner. This late afternoon shot was taken in Summer with the most iconic of the falls in frame. It is typically a very crowded trail during the high season, but wait until the sun begins to set and you will find less and less visitors, allowing for some uninterrupted photography. A 30 second shutter was used here to better capture the beautiful movement of water and the colorful illumination of the canyon walls.
