Moeraki Burn

These “alien boulders” are found at one specific stretch of Koekohe Beach on the Otago Coast in New Zealand. The Moeraki Boulders are a group of large and spherical formations with beautiful textures that seem very out of place. These boulders or technically, grey-colored “septarian concretions” have been exhumed from the mudstone enclosing them and concentrated on the beach by coastal erosion. This shot was taken at sunrise, facing east with wet feet and a warm jacket. At first uneventful, the sunrise eventually became quite vibrant, casting beautiful reflections and soft light upon the scenery. The 0.8 second shutter speed worked nicely to capture the movement of the water as the waves rushed in around the alien like boulders.
